vCard to CSV converter

Turn a .vcf contacts file into a spreadsheet you can open in Excel or Google Sheets. Free — we ask for your email before the download. Your contacts are other people's personal data, so they don't leave your browser — the file is never uploaded.

How it works

  1. Drop one or more .vcf files. Your browser reads them — nothing is sent.
  2. Check the count and the first few rows.
  3. Enter your email and download contacts.csv. Each contact is one row. Main fields get their own columns; extras go into Notes, labelled.

Columns: First Name, Last Name, Company, Job Title, Work Email, Personal Email, Other Email, Mobile Phone, Work Phone, Home Phone, Fax, Street, City, State, Zip, Country, Address 2 Street, Address 2 City, Address 2 State, Address 2 Zip, Address 2 Country, Birthday, Website, Notes. Anything without its own column goes into Notes with a label. Photos are left out.

How to export a .vcf file

iPhone

  1. Open the Contacts app and tap Lists at the top left.
  2. Touch and hold All Contacts (or one list), then tap Export.
  3. Save the .vcf file to Files, or AirDrop it to your computer.

This needs iOS 16 or later. On older versions, export from iCloud.com → Contacts instead.

Mac Contacts

  1. Open Contacts and select All Contacts in the sidebar.
  2. Press Command-A to select every card.
  3. Choose File → Export → Export vCard, and save the file.

Google Contacts

  1. Go to contacts.google.com and click Export.
  2. Choose which contacts, then pick vCard (for iOS Contacts).
  3. Click Export. The .vcf file downloads.

Google can also export a Google CSV directly. Use the vCard option if you want the columns on this page.

Outlook

  1. Outlook exports a full address book as CSV, not vCard — you may not need this tool.
  2. If you have .vcf files from Outlook (a contact saved as a vCard, or one sent to you as an attachment), drop them here.

Menu names change between versions. If a step doesn't match your screen, look for Export in the same menu.

How to import the CSV into BuildIt

  1. Open the CSV in Excel or Google Sheets. Fix names, delete people you don't need, fill gaps. Save it as CSV. In Excel, open it with Data → From Text/CSV and set the phone columns to Text, or Excel may change the phone numbers.
  2. In BuildIt, open Contacts and choose Import. Upload the CSV.
  3. The columns map on their own. Check the preview, then start the import.

In each row, the first filled-in email and the first filled-in phone (left to right) become the contact's primary email and phone.

Questions

Do you keep a copy of my contacts?
No. Your browser reads the file and builds the CSV on your own device. The file is never uploaded — not to us, not to anyone. We receive the email address you type, whether you ticked the box, and a bot-check token — nothing else. This page runs no analytics or ad trackers. The email form uses Cloudflare Turnstile to block bots; it checks your browser, and it never sees your file or your contacts. You can check this yourself: open your browser’s developer tools, watch the Network tab, and convert a file.
Is it free?
Yes. We ask for your email before the download. If you tick the box, we send one email to confirm; once you confirm, we may email you about BuildIt. We never sell your email.
Which vCard files work?
vCard 2.1, 3.0 and 4.0, from iPhone, Mac, Google, Android and Outlook. You can drop several files at once; they become one CSV. Photos are left out.
What columns does the CSV have?
First Name, Last Name, Company, Job Title, Work Email, Personal Email, Other Email, Mobile Phone, Work Phone, Home Phone, Fax, Street, City, State, Zip, Country, Address 2 Street, Address 2 City, Address 2 State, Address 2 Zip, Address 2 Country, Birthday, Website, Notes. Anything without its own column — extra phone numbers, a fourth email, a nickname, a second website — goes into Notes with a label, so it isn't lost.
Will it open in Excel and Google Sheets?
Yes. The file is UTF-8 with a byte-order mark, so Excel shows accented names correctly. One catch: if you double-click the file, Excel may change phone numbers (a number starting with + can turn into a formula or 4.47E+11). To keep them as typed, open a blank workbook, use Data → From Text/CSV, and set the phone columns to Text. Google Sheets keeps them as they are.
Can I import the CSV straight into BuildIt?
Yes. The column names match BuildIt’s import, so they map on their own. BuildIt can also import a .vcf file directly — use this tool when you want to see and clean the list in a spreadsheet first.
