Where the system came from
The methodology inside BuildIt is called REWIRE. It was not designed in a lab.
It started with what John Eliason describes as "the longest, loneliest walk I ever took" — leaving a bankruptcy hearing as a young man with nothing to his name. He has spent the years since reconstructing what happened next: how someone with no clients, no capital, and no leverage in a crowded industry rebuilt, and then kept rebuilding, until the rebuilding itself became the system.
It turned out that having zero in my bank account was a gift, a transformative positive growth engine I had been missing.
The work was done alongside his wife, Ruth, who was the first co-architect of the methods and the first test case for whether they produced an actual life, not just an actual business. Over years, Eliason borrowed from industries far outside his own, kept what worked, discarded what did not, and arrived at an approach that produced a record-setting practice with unusually low overhead — and, more importantly, room to breathe.
That practice eventually became FFUSA, one of the largest firms of its kind in the country. REWIRE is the codification of how it was built. BuildIt is the software that operationalizes it.
What REWIRE actually is
REWIRE is organized around a single, deceptively quiet idea: 3 Degrees Different. Small, intentional adjustments — to where attention goes, to which questions get asked, to what gets removed from the calendar — compound into outcomes that look nothing like the average.
